What is the CICA?The CICA

The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) is a government organisation which awards compensation to people who have suffered either physically or mentally after being a blameless victim of a violent crime.

The scheme can pay out between £1,000 and £500,000 to innocent victims, and on an annual basis it issues compensation totalling more than £200,000,000 (two hundred million pounds).

The CICA’s head office is currently located in Glasgow, employing in the region of 450 members of staff to handle all cases. They are currently responsible for administrating the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme throughout England, Wales and Scotland.

The current Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme was introduced on November 27, 2012 and applies to any application made on or after that date.

In previous years the CICA have considered applications under the CICA Scheme 2008, 2001 and 1996.
